Roasting Light — Limited Edition
The kinetic suspension Roasting Light was imagined for the ephemeral restaurant Hell’s Kitchen in Zaventem Ateliers (Brussels).
For this event, Zaventem Ateliers has chosen to collaborate with different personalities from the culinary world. The chefs are invited to experience the space and explore the possibilities offered by their practice.
Starting by the open fire, the experience catalyses new culinary ideas and sensations.
Making a twist of the spit turner, the installation is composed of four lines of lights « skewered » by a brushed aluminium structure which slowly rotate above the kitchen counter.
As the first tool for roasting meat directly on the fire, the spit turner brings together the primitive and fundamental link between the kitchen and the fire element, tamed around the fireplace.
The installation thus reinvents in a minimalist and offbeat way the concept of the rotisserie, associated with the aesthetics of the utilitarian “service” light found in kitchens.
Technical parts such as belts, pulleys and bearings are deliberately assumed and worked on as aesthetic details and contribute to the raw and mechanical beauty of the whole.
An octagon of faceted mirrors is added to the structure and reminds us of the reflector accessory used to diffuse heat in the roaster.
On a slow and regular rhythm of rotation, the installation sets up a contemplative loop of light at the heart of Hell’s Kitchen‘s effervescence.
